The Building of Field Research Center (FRC) Marks the Commitment of Vocational College UGM in the Development of Applied Undergraduate Programs

Yogyakarta (20/2) – The laying of the first stone as an early sign of the Vocational College UGM Field Research Center (FRC) Building on Wednesday, February 20th , 2020 in Kulon Progo. The activity was attended by the Deputy Governor of DIY, Paku Alam X, Regent of Kulon Progo, Drs. H. Sutedjo, UGM Chancellor, Prof. Ir. Panut Mulyono, M.Eng., D.Eng., IPU., ASEAN Eng, Dean of Vocational College UGM, Wikan Sakarinto, ST, M.Sc., Ph.D. . Previously, in November last year, the Vocational College UGM had started the construction of the Teaching Industry Learning Center (TILC) building located in the Blimbingsari area, Sleman, DIY.

In his welcome speech, the Regent of Kulon Progo, Drs. H. Sutedjo, expressed his hope that with the start of the construction of Vocational College UGM, it can provide positive energy for the quality of education in Kulon Progo Regency and in the Special Region of Yogyakarta in the future. Likewise, the presence of the UGM SV FRC Building will bring them closer to the people in the Kulon Progo area.

“Besides that, the hope is that as more young people get higher education, the quality of Kulon Progo’s resources will also increase,” he said.

The FRC building is located at Jl. Tunjungan. Kulon Progo is designed to have three floors that function as meeting rooms, analysis rooms, laboratories, and offices with an open space concept for the general public and the educational community to learn and develop vocational education. This building will function as a center for research and innovation development activities in collaboration with the Kulon Progo Regency Government. Thus, the principle of “link and match” vocational education with industry, agencies, and the community can be appropriately applied in the real world.

“Hopefully, by working together, synergizing, we can cover the shortcomings that we have and we can minimize them so that our activities are strengthened by synergizing with one another.” said the Rector of UGM in his speech.

The construction of this building marks the seriousness and commitment of the Vocational College UGM in facilitating its Applied Bachelor program. In 2020, SV UGM opens more Applied Bachelor (S.Tr.) or Diploma 4 programs. A total of 20 study programs (Prodi) from the science, technology and social humanities groups are ready to be offered in the 2020 Vocational School Admissions (PMB) Vocational College UGM.

UGM Electric Car Team “Yacaranda” Ready to Launch EV-3 for KLMI 2019

Pitaya, the Tourism Lecturer, Attends Global Youth Leadership Exchange Program in South Korea

Pitaya, S.E.T., M.Sc., a lecturer of the Tourism study program, the Department of Languages, Arts, and Culture Management of Vocational College, Universitas Gadjah Mada, participated in the Global Youth Leadership Exchange Program entitled “GoGo Pyeongchang.” This event runs on February 14 – 17, 2019, in South Korea. This program is a series of international programs organized by the East Asia Inter-Regional Tourism Forum General Secretariat in Gangwon to introduce and promote the contributions of the EATOF into the international forum. The tagline of this program is “discover, experience, inspire.”

“GoGo Pyeongchang aims to attract the young generations from the member countries of the EATOF to meet, gather, and synergize in various strategic programs as the world’s future leaders,” says Pitaya.

This activity, he continued, was sponsored by the EATOF General Secretariat and was held in a series with the Winter Olympics. With this activity, the youth delegates from their respective countries could collaborate in organizing international events in the future to provide international experience to the younger generations, exchange information, and show each nation’s cultural character. Besides, they could make the tourism sector a medium for collaboration.

“That’s why the GoGo Pyeongchang contains solid events to cultivate the young generations of EATOF through tourism activities. This program includes formal meetings, performing arts collaborations, and educational tours. The educational tours do not only introduce the participants to sports tourism through the Winter Olympics but also introduce them to world peace missions through a visit to the DMZ (demilitarization zone), the border between South Korea and North Korea,” says Pitaya.
