Vocational College held Downstreaming and Appropriate Technology

Tuesday (28/2) Universitas Gadjah Mada as Higher Education Institute based on superior research spur its academic society to learn deeply and enrich the achievement of the research. It is needed well prepared of product and industry of Indonesia to compete with all competitor. The mastery of technology is the key to build the competitiveness force in order to produce the valuable product or give the primacy competitive.

In the workshop of data collection of research of Academic society and in order to downstream the research and appropriate technology which held in February 28th 2017 at room 225 and attended about 40 participants which consist of academic society and investor, synergized to take the concrete steps to strengthen the appropriate technology.

The Role of University in the nation’s progress based on down streaming and appropriate technology” carried by the team of down streaming and appropriate accompanied by Directorate of Business Development and Incubation UGM very enthusiasm to collect the data of research and study research.

In his speech, Wikan Sakarinto, Ph.D explained that the steps of collecting data of UGM Society which will be evaluated with TRL standard and saved in database of research, Vocational College has roadmap research and community services which must be known and understood by all the lecturers.

“This workshop aimed to get the benefit from UGM society which in the near future will be used as guidance policy by team of down streaming and appropriate technology, PUI, and UGM”. In this workshop that moderated by Yosephus Ardean, M.Eng, there are three presenters who got the opportunity to presenting their presentation. There are Dr. Endang Soelistyowati, Handoko, M.T., and Budi Sumanto, M.Eng.

The speaker of the workshop, Sang Kompiang Irawan, Ph.D explained that his party ready to help register products by SV UGM to registered to the Controllers. This thing needs to be the concerned because if the products already registered and got license, it will avoid and reduce the plagiarism.

By holding the event like this, hopefully will push and support the researchers of UGM for always innovate to produce
the products of appropriate technology which commercial valuable, environmentally friendly and beneficial to all the society. 

SV UGM Signed an MoU with International Trade and Law Institute PNU Korea

Vocational College (SV) UGM keeps strengthening international cooperation with higher education institutions in various countries. One of the most prospectus countries to become partners is the Republic of Korea. The strategic initiatives on academic and human resources development got positive response from an institution in the Republic of Korea. It was proven by a visit from Professor Eun Sup Lee, Ph.D., as the President of International Trade and Law Institute Pusan National University (PNU). Through that visit, Prof. Lee wanted to meet the officials of SV UGM to discuss further about establishing cooperation on certified training program on International Trade and Law and other collaborative activities.

Considering the mutual benefits, SV UGM gave positive response to the cooperation schemes. Therefore, both institutions agreed to sign the MoU documents afterwards. Each MoU document was signed by President of International Trade and Law Pusan National University Korea, Profesor Eun Sup Lee, Ph.D., and Dean of Vocational College UGM, Wikan Sakarinto, S.T.,M.Sc., Ph.D., on Wednesday (22/2) at SV UGM.

Andri Handayani, S.S.,M.A., as Manager of Office of International Affairs SV UGM explained that instead of establishing cooperation on certified training program, SV UGM and PNU Korea would soon establish dual/double degree program for students of SV UGM.

Andri also added that the certified training program is designed for students and alumni of SV UGM. In the future, after accomplishing the certified training program, graduates could possibly work at outstanding companies in the Republic of Korea. (ty)

SV UGM Brought Back the Existence of International Community (IC) for Students

After being temporarily suspended for one year, International Community (IC) of Vocational College (SV) UGM batch 2017 was officially re-established in February 2017. This community is now running under the management of Office of International Affairs (OIA) and under the supervision of Vice Dean for Research, Community Service and International Affairs. The members of this community are students of SV UGM who are interested in developing their English proficiency, developing leadership skills and participating in international programs as well as increasing international networks. Taking place at room SV 225 on Thursday (23/02/17), the first gathering of IC was attended by more than 100 students. Students are very excited to join this community regarding the benefits.

Dean of Vocational College UGM, Wikan Sakarinto, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D, said that one of many reasons why SV UGM brought back the existence of International Community among students is to sharpen students’ English proficiency. He considered that this point is very important to support and encourage students to compete in global world. Besides, IC was also re-established to bring international atmosphere among students so that they could accustom themselves to using English every day.

“IC could be a source of information about international programs and international opportunities,” Andri Handayani as Manager of OIA SV said.

Regular meeting of IC would be held twice a month. Each meeting may include monitoring and training to prepare students for participating in international programs, such as student exchange, joint research, summer camp, etc. Not to mention, IC meeting would also invite native speakers to accommodate students’ interest in writing high quality Curriculum Vitae, Presentation, Papers and Proposals. After prepared MAPRES Community, Vocational College UGM builds Community for PKM Supervisor

On Friday, (17/2), Supporting the effort Directorate for Research and Community of Directorate General for Higher Education Republic of Indonesia in order to improve to quality of students at Higher Education Institution through the Students Creativity Program (PKM), Vocational College UGM builds the community for PKM Supervisor.

Vice dean FOR Academic and Students Affairs, Agus Nugroho, S.T., M.T., explained that by the quantity the total of PKM’s proposal which uploaded by students has pretty much every year, however from the quantity side needs to be improved, especially by their Supervisors, according to many proposals which uploaded, only little percentage who finally accepted and funded by Directorate for Higher Education.

Agus also added that Vocational College already built 2 communities for students before, there are Community for the outstanding students (MAPRES) and Intellectual Community for Students, remembering to the total of new students of Vocational College is big enough, there are 2300 new students annually, this thing will be good potency for Vocational College UGM.

“Students often have difficulty in getting the Supervisor, hopefully after we built this community will make the students feel easier and improving the passion in competes at PKM”. Agus said.

This meeting attended by more than 100 lecturers around Vocational College, and invited Ma’un Budiyanto, S.T., M.T., as the speaker. Maun explained 7 fields of PKM and informed that PKM already become identity of the University,

“Not enough to covered by Directorate of Higher Education, but we have to be winner at the National Competition”. He said.

The Synergy between Vocational College UGM with Provincial Government of Yogyakarta about forming new study program

Friday (10/2) followed up about the result developing role and function of educational institution which valuable to the society, VC UGM always innovating and developing cooperation network. Located at room of the Assistant of Provincial’s Secretary, Drs. Sulistyo, SH., CN, M.Si, welcomes the delegates of Vocational College UGM.

Official of Vocational College represented by Vice Dean for Cooperation and Strategic Initiative, Radhian Krisna Putra, S.T., M.Eng and the lecturer from Department of Economics and Business, Anggi Rahajeng, S.E., M.Ec, said thanks to Provincial Government of Yogyakarta for the plan of opening the new study program at VC UGM.

This warm meeting was conducted directly by Drs. Sulistyo, S.H., C.N., M.Si, which now being the caretaker of mayor of Yogyakarta city and attended by some institute and units around the Province of Yogyakarta.

Vocational College plans to open “Applied Bachelor of Planning and Development of Regional Economic” as the new study program. This major is prepared to produce applied bachelor expert in the field of planning and developing so that ready to formulate the master plan’s concepts appropriate to the priority of Central and Regional Development. As the 7th year-old Faculty, Vocational College needs the supports from Provincial Government of Yogyakarta for the better development.

“Collaboration of research program between University and Government, Internship program for Students in Governmental Institute, and also inviting visiting lecturer from Provincial Government, become things we need to synergy”. Radhian Said.

Meanwhile, Sulistyo explained that basically the government gives good response about it. This case proved by the information which explained by him about the scheme that will be implemented in the draft of MoU.

To fulfill market needs, hopefully this new major will be opened at the new period 2017/2018”. He said.

Vocational College held Vocational Talents Scouting (VTS) for Vocational High School Students

Saturday (11/2) Vocational College UGM held the event “Vocational Talent Scouting” for High school students around Yogyakarta and Central Java. This event attended by more than 150 students and teachers from best of 28 Vocational High Schools in Yogyakarta and Central Java region and located at Library Hall of Vocational College.

Agus explained that VTS is new program from Vocational College UGM which addressed for talented high school’s students from VHS and has aiming to selecting the talented students which have achievement in academic, non-academic, and others things to become the next students at Vocational College UGM.

This meeting also attended and opened by Vice Rector for Academic and Students Affairs UGM, Prof. dr. Iwan Dwiprahasto, M.Med., Sc., Ph.D. in front of attendance, Prof. Iwan introduced Vocational education which is existing in UGM, where vocational education able to be solution  for the fulfillment expert’s need in the working world in Indonesia.

In addition, this meeting continued with discussion between participants and Head of Departments which relevant with what the participants’ want. Vocational College will hold the same event for Senior High School students on April 2017.

Improving Quality of Vocational Education, SV UGM Took Part in National Assembly of FPTVI 2017

This event was attended by more than 70 State Universities and Private Universities all over Indonesia. As the first guest speaker, Adam Pamma, the representative of Senior Experten Service (SES) in Indonesia, presented a seminar on ‘Best Practice of Innovation-based Research and Synergy between Vocational Higher Education, Industries and Government of Germany’. Wikan Sakarinto, S.T., M.Sc.,Ph.D., the Dean of SV UGM, became the moderator of that session.

Wikan said that vocational education is a strategic sector therefore in near future UGM will establish a Study Program focusing on Undergraduate and Graduate Degree of Applied Sciences.

On the second day of meeting, FPTVI invited two guest speakers from Directorate General of Coaching Training and Productivity of Ministry of Manpower of Indonesia to present seminar about ‘Synergistic Training on Comptence Test to Meet the Need of Skilled Human Resources’. The moderator of this session is the Director of Vocational Development Center SV UGM, Ir. Hotma Prawoto, M.T., IP-Md., who was the first chairperson of FPTVI. The next session invited the Chairperson of BNSP as the guest speaker presenting ‘Graduates Competence Certification of UNISTA in attempt to meet the Link and Match of Service-based Industries and Manufacturers’.

This event was closed with a plenum to compose a list of working programs of FPTVI including Promotion and Application of Vocational Student Admissions, Vocational Olympic Competition and Joint Journals  programs. (ty)

 

To Provide Ready to Work Human Resources, SV UGM Held Intensive Debriefing Session for Graduates

Thursday (09/02), Vocational College (SV) UGM held debriefing session for graduates of SV UGM batch II (February) in 2017. Taking place at Library Hall of SV UGM, there were 221 graduates be given a brief course from Vice Dean for Cooperation, Alumni and Strategic Initiatives, Radhian Krisna Putra, S.T., M.Eng.

Radhian explained that this event is a means of giving motivation and tips to graduates in order to prepare them to face industrial world.

“Graduates of SV UGM are designed to be ready for real work,” he said.

Taking advantages of Vocational Development Center (VDC) SV UGM, graduates of SV Ugm could get a job easily. It is proven that within 1 year, there are more than 500 job vacancies uploaded on the website and social media which could be accessed by students and alumni.

VDC also distributes Alumni Card and VDC Membership Card to graduates in attempt to ease them at getting facilities during JobFair which is regulargy held twice a year by VDC. (ty)

SV UGM Established Intellectual Community to Prepare High Achiever Students

Friday, 3 February  2017  Vocational College (SV) UGM held the First Gathering of Intellectual Community SV UGM 2017. Taking place at Room SV 225,  that event was attended by students from various study programs. 7 students from High Achiever Students Community (KOMMAPRES) SV UGM and 10 students from PKM Corner SV.

The establishment of Intellectual Community SV UGM aiming at facilitating student creativity. This community is expected to accommodate students on developing creativity through competitions.

“Within scale 100%, students spend 90% to study and work on assignments and 10% to join organization and to develop softskill,” Fitri Damayanti Berutu, SE., SS., M.Sc., as assistant of Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs SV, explained.

Fitri added that students should use their time within 24 hours wisely. It is such a loss if students spend most of their leisure time to play games and to use social media. By establishing Intellectual Community, SV UGM expects that students could develop their softskill to achieve more.

The First gathering also emphasized long term project run by KOMMAPRES and PKM Corner SV. The facilities provided include persuasive information to synergize all students of SV UGM to give contribution to institution. The information is delivered to Departments by collaborating with Student Association (KMD). The secretariat of this community is located inside SV UGM.

KOMMAPRES and PKM Corner are expected to facilitate students to create outstanding, creative, and competitive students who possess good attitute and uphold the values of Pancasila. Students involved in Intellectual Community are encouraged to motivate other students in achieving more. (ty)

Mechanical Engineering Students of SV UGM are Having Internship at PT. Wijaya Karya (WIKA) Tbk

As a manifestation of MoU/agreement between Vocational College (SV) UGM and PT. Wijaya Karya (WIKA) Tbk, there were 7 students of Mechanical Engineering Department sent to join an internship since January.

Based on the proposals sent by students to PT. Wijaya Karya (Persero), 4 students of Heavy Equipment Engineering and 3 students of Mechanical Engineering were qualified to join either a 6-month internship program or a 3-month internsip program.

 “There are many possibilities that our students could be officially working at PT. Wijaya Karya Tbk in the future,” Ir. F. Eko Wismo Winarto, M.Sc., Ph.D, head of Heavy Equipment Engineering study program, explained with high optimism.

Eko Wismo added that there are many companies recruiting employees from Mechanical Engineering Department of SV UGM through internship program. He always expects that students could also pick topic of their Final Paper based on their internship experience.

There is no special requirement for students who are intending to have internship at PT. Wijaya Karya (WIKA) Tbk. Each student only needs to submit a proposal. Then, PT. Wijaya Karya Tbk would send announcement to the related study programs.

PT WIKA could be a prospectus partner of SV UGM to provide skilled Human Resources to compete in global market. (ty)
