Vocational College UGM participated in Hannover Messe 2023

Director General of Vocational Education, Dr. Ir. Kiki Yuliati M.Sc. on Thursday (13/04) held a joint media meeting with Indonesian representatives who will go forward to showcase their industrial technology creations at the world’s largest industrial exhibition, Hannover Messe 2023 in Hannover, Germany on April 17-21 2023. One of the Indonesian representatives  participating in this prestigious international exhibition is Vocational College UGM which exhibits Brake Lining Crack Detection Technology with the Assistance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and IRV (Intelligent Railway Vibration Monitoring System/IRV-MS).

Indonesia has become the Official Partner Country of Hannover Messe for the third time, and this year Indonesia is taking this opportunity by exhibiting a number of industrial technologies made by the nation’s children, especially Vocational Education so that other countries can see the educational transformation that is taking place in Indonesia. “We want to show how the transformation of vocational education through the Freedom to Learn policy in Indonesia is able to prepare superior human resources and produce superior product innovations from collaboration between lecturers, students, and also industry,” said the Director General of Vocational Education, Dr. Ir. Kiki Yuliati M.Sc. at the media meeting. It is known that through the Hannover Messe 2023, Indonesia will again showcase a number of industrial technologies 4.0 and industrial sector investment opportunities from 157 co-exhibitors.

On this occasion, the UGM Vocational College participated in exhibiting their industrial technology works at the Hannover Messe 2023. Vocational College UGM exhibited an industrial technology, namely Brake Lining Crack Detection Technology with the Assistance of Artificial Intelligence Technology (Artificial Intelligence / AI) and IRV ( Intelligent Railway Vibration Monitoring System/IRV-MS). This technology was initiated by Dr. Eng. Agustinus Winarno, M.T., M. Eng., lecturer in Mechanical Engineering Technology Diploma 4 study program, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vocational College UGM, together with a team of lecturers and students. This system is a system for measuring and monitoring the condition of rail vehicles and tracks. Features present in this platform are identification of track irregularities, track defects, ride comfort and others for predictive maintenance. The system works within the GSM cellular network to provide real-time and reliable data for the Machine Learning and IOT platforms that are ready to support the system. Measurement and monitoring can be carried out via the website in real-time, apart from displaying a heatmap indicating damage, there is a feature to visualize audio and vibration data at the point of the heatmap itself. This industrial technology has gone through several stages of accuracy and recognition so that it is worthy of being exhibited at prestigious events such as the Hannover Messe 2023.

Dr. Eng. Agustinus Winarno, M.T., M.Eng. in an interview with the Vocational College UGM Public Relations Team said that “The spirit is the same, namely to promote to Germany and the world that Indonesia has a close ecosystem of collaboration between vocational education and industry. The real evidence is the Brake Lining Crack Detection Technology machine with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and IRV (Intelligent Railway Vibration Monitoring System/IRV-MS) technology. In addition, there is also brake lining crack detection technology that we brought to Germany and is equipped with robots and AI. This machine is the only one at PT Akebono, the largest brake pad manufacturing company in Japan and in Indonesia. The hope conveyed by Dr. Eng. Agustinus Winarno, M.T., M.Eng. that is, with increasingly close collaboration between vocational education and industry, it will further expand the potential of the Vocational College UGM in welcoming the industrial revolution 4.0 and realizing an Independent Campus.
