Jakarta, August 29-31, 2024 – The UGM Vocational School is set to participate in the Higher Education Partnerships Conference (HEPCON) 2024, taking place at the Balai Kartini Exhibition and Convention Center in Jakarta. This international education fair, organized with the support of the Ministry of Education and Culture, aims to foster collaboration between educational institutions and multinational companies operating in Indonesia. The event is expected to create a sustainable ecosystem between higher education and industry, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) such as access to education and education for sustainability.
HEPCON is not just a platform for educational institutions to collaborate; it also seeks to expand its reach by involving various stakeholders, including multinational corporations. The Ministry of Education and Culture, along with several key figures such as rectors from state universities in Indonesia, the Indonesian University Network, and various embassies and foreign educational centers, fully supports this initiative. This collaboration is crucial for enhancing creativity and innovation in vocational education.
The Directorate of Partnerships between the Business World and the Industrial World (DUDI) is actively involved in this event, showcasing the participation of seven polytechnics and one vocational school, UGM, through an exhibition of vocational products and educational offerings at the DUDI booth. This initiative highlights the importance of partnerships in promoting vocational education and enhancing access to education for all.
Adi Nuryanto, the Director of Partnerships and Alignment between the Business World and the Industrial World at the Ministry of Education and Culture, emphasized the government’s commitment to fostering collaboration between vocational education and industry. This collaboration is essential for creating a workforce that is equipped with the skills needed in today’s rapidly changing job market.
The UGM Vocational School offers a variety of educational programs, including its International Undergraduate Program (IUP), which aims to provide students with a global perspective and the skills necessary for success in a competitive environment. During the HEPCON meeting, discussions were held to explore potential collaborations between vocational higher education institutions and strategic partners from Iran. One of the highlights of UGM Vocational School’s participation is the presentation of the Intelligent Railway Vibration Measurement System (IRV). This innovative tool, developed by Dr. Eng. Agustinus Winarno from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, utilizes AI technology to monitor various damages to railway infrastructure. This project was incubated through the Prime Step program of UGM’s Business Development Directorate, showcasing the importance of innovation in vocational education.
Additionally, UGM Vocational School, through Dr. Eng. Yosephus Ardean, introduced FabLab as a regional partnership-based technology incubation initiative. FabLab has produced various innovative products, including melon cultivation tools, greenhouse monitoring equipment, and body wound level measurement devices. These innovations demonstrate the school’s commitment to creativity and innovation in vocational education.
