Vocational College of UGM Holds Pre-Departure Meeting for Fab Camp Challenge 2024

Yogyakarta (October 21, 2024) – The Vocational College of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a Pre-Departure Meeting for the 2024 Fab Camp Challenge via Zoom on Monday, October 21, 2024. The event was officially opened by Dr. Eng. Yosephus Ardean K Prayitno, S.T., M.Eng., who serves as the chairman of the organizing committee. The meeting aimed to prepare participants for the upcoming Fab Camp Challenge, which focuses on innovative solutions to urgent global issues.

To kick off the discussion, Dr. Eng. Yosephus Ardean K Prayitno introduced the 2024 Fab Camp Challenge, including a video recap of the 2023 Fab Camp Challenge. The video showcased the creativity and collaboration displayed by participants in tackling various challenges. Fab Camp Challenge is an initiative aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in promoting affordable and alternative energy solutions. This year’s Fab Camp Challenge theme, “Save The World,” emphasizes two critical areas: Waste Management and Renewable Energy.

Dr. Eng. Agustinus Winarno, S.T., M.Eng., the Program Division PIC, further explained current conditions, data, problems, and possible solutions related to waste management and renewable energy, particularly in Kulon Progo Regency. During this Pre-Departure Meeting, participants also received detailed explanations of the event concept, activity mechanisms, and location information, serving as a guide for this year’s Fab Camp Challenge participants. The organizing team provided essential insights to ensure all participants are well-prepared for the upcoming challenges.

Participants were then divided into six groups, each containing at least ten members. A total of 61 participants registered for this event, including six Liaison Officers (LO) assigned to each team, 41 UGM students, five high school/vocational school students, six international participants from China, Pakistan, and Malawi, Africa, as well as three general participants.

To encourage collaboration and team bonding, participants were divided into breakout rooms according to their groups. Each group held a discussion led by their Liaison Officer for 30 minutes, allowing them to connect and strategize for the upcoming challenges related to waste management and renewable energy. This interactive session was crucial in building team cooperation and ensuring everyone felt involved and ready.

During the discussions, participants expressed their enthusiasm for the Fab Camp Challenge 2024 that will be held from 27th to 31 October 2024 in the Field Research Center SV UGM in Kulon Progo. Many highlighted the importance of addressing environmental issues through innovative solutions, particularly in waste management and renewable energy. The event not only served as a learning platform but also as a catalyst for societal change.

The Vocational College of UGM is committed to nurturing a generation of innovators ready to face global challenges. By participating in initiatives such as the Fab Camp Challenge, students are encouraged to think critically and creatively about sustainable solutions that can have a real impact on the world.
