High School Students from New Taipei Visit Sekolah Vokasi UGM, Strengthening Indonesia–Taiwan Educational Relations

Yogyakarta, July 21, 2025 — Sekolah Vokasi Universitas Gadjah Mada (SV UGM) welcomed dozens of high school students from New Taipei, Taiwan, for a campus introduction event held at the Teaching Industry Learning Center (TILC). The visit aimed to introduce various programs and strengths of SV UGM, as well as encourage Taiwanese students to continue their studies in Indonesia, particularly at SV UGM.

In his speech, Dr. Nuryuda Irdana, S.P., M.M., H.T.S., C.H.E., Head of the Department of Language, Arts, and Cultural Management, said that SV UGM has established good relationships with various partners in Taiwan. “We hope that Taiwanese students can learn a lot in Indonesia. As a large nation, Indonesia offers many things to explore, including in the world of education,” he said.

Dr. Leo Indra Wardhana, S.E., M.Sc., CFP., Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs added that this visit is expected to be a gateway for Taiwanese students to gain international experience. “We want to provide a direct picture of what it is like to study at SV UGM and open up opportunities for them to continue their studies here,” he explained. He also emphasized that SV UGM has good cooperative relationships not only with Taiwan, but also with various educational institutions from other countries.

Representative from Taiwan, Yes Chun Shih, welcomed this opportunity as a cultural exchange event. “This is an opportunity to broaden cross-cultural understanding between Taiwan and Indonesia. We hope that there will be more cooperation in the future with SV UGM,” he said.

The welcoming ceremony opened with a performance of the traditional Rara Ngigel dance by Universitas Gadjah Mada Surakarta Style Javanese Arts Unit (UKJGS UGM), reflecting the spirit of Javanese cultural hospitality. Participants then watched a video profile of SV UGM, showcasing its various flagship study programs, campus facilities, and international networks.

During the discussion session, Taiwanese students actively asked questions about student exchange opportunities, scholarships, study experiences, and student activities at SV UGM. The university explained that SV UGM has collaborated with various countries such as Japan, Korea, and China, and provides various scholarship programs and active student communities.

The event concluded with a campus tour that gave students firsthand experience of the learning environment at SV UGM.

Through this activity, SV UGM hopes to attract more international students, especially from Taiwan, to continue their vocational education in Indonesia and become part of the global community at UGM.
