The public lecture featured Prof. Ramlee Mustapha, Former President of the Asian Academic Society of Vocational Education and Training (AASVET), as the keynote speaker. The session was moderated by Alfelia Nugky Permatasari, S.S., M.A., lecturer at Sekolah Vokasi UGM.

In his presentation, Prof. Ramlee emphasized the importance of understanding students’ perceptions of the learning process. According to him, the current generation tends to understand material more easily through visual media than text alone. Therefore, the pedagogical approach in vocational education needs to adapt to these needs.

Regarding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in learning, Prof. Ramlee emphasized that it is impossible to prohibit students from using this technology. “Innovation is more important than AI,” he said, stressing that the main goal of teaching is not to restrict, but to guide students to be able to innovate by utilizing AI wisely.

After the presentation, the event continued with a discussion and question-and-answer session with the participants. During this session, several participants asked questions, one of which was about what strategies lecturers could use to ensure that students’ use of AI did not reduce creativity in the learning process. Prof. Ramlee responded by emphasizing the need for a pedagogical approach that balances the use of technology with innovation-based assignments, so that students are still encouraged to think critically and creatively.
