The Center of Excellence (CoE) Smart Agri, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), is a leading institution in smart agriculture, focusing on the development of horticultural agroindustry, particularly premium melon cultivation. Based on modern agricultural technology, CoE Smart Agri aims to enhance productivity, quality, and sustainability in greenhouse-based farming systems. In addition to functioning as a production unit, CoE Smart Agri also serves as a center for development, research, education, and community engagement. Through various activities such as internships, fieldwork programs, student research, and open-farm initiatives, CoE Smart Agri provides real-world learning opportunities for young generations while facilitating the transfer of modern agricultural technology to communities and industry partners.
Products
Fresh Melon
Premium melons with natural sweetness (Brix > 14), a crisp and juicy texture, fresh taste, and minimal use of pesticides. Two flesh colors are cultivated—orange and green—with a total of five melon varieties (Sweet Hami, Lavender, Sweet Net, White Kirin, and Honey Globe). In addition to their different colors, these varieties also vary in texture, ranging from crisp to soft.
Cold Pressed Juice
A melon juice beverage crafted using advanced cold-pressed technology, a heat-free and low-oxidation process that preserves the fruit’s natural nutrients and authentic freshness.
Facilities
Green House
To support its diverse functions and operational activities, the CoE Smart Agri is equipped with three greenhouse units, each covering an area of 525 m². The cultivation systems applied include two fertigation systems and one Nutrient Film Technique (NFT) system, with one greenhouse integrated with an automatic dosing machine for precise nutrient control. In addition, a dedicated nursery facility for plant propagation is available, equipped with modern analytical instruments such as Near-Infrared Reflectance (NIR) analysis equipment and a chlorophyll meter to support research activities and plant quality monitoring. Beyond cultivation facilities, there are also product processing facilities for diversification, such as a juicer, mixer, and oven, enabling continuous development of processed melon products. This diversification is part of a commitment to reducing food loss.
Service
