Last March, the delegate of Vocational College UGM (SV UGM) visited some Universities and Institutes of Technology in China. This visit aims at developing academic partnership especially related to higher education and research on applied sciences. The universities and higher education institutions Vocational College UGM visited in China are Zhengzhou University, North China University of Water Conservancy and Electric Power (NCUW) and Yellow River Conservancy and Technology Institute (YRCTI) located in Henan province.

According to Dr. Wikan Sakarinto, the Vice Dean for Academics and Student Affairs of Vocational College UGM, during these 3 years, SV UGM has been holding mutual partnership with YRCTI and has been sending many students to join study extension there.

“In near future, SV UGM will be continuously expanding mutual partnership with Yellow River Institute to develop Double Degree (Applied Bachelor) as well as exchange programs for lecturer and academic members,” Wikan says.

Wikan added that this scheme gained support from Prof. Zheng Jin (Cathy), The Deputy Dean of School of International Education Yellow River Institute. On behalf of YRCTI, she stated the  commitment of YRCTI to carry out and expand the partnership with SV UGM.

At the moment, a number of SV UGM students studying in Yellow River Institute are preparing to continue their study in Zhengzhou University. Considering the good prospect, SV UGM therefore established partnership with Zhengzhou University by signing an MoU. The MoU mentions the opportunity of study extension to pursue Bachelor of Applied Science (B.Sc.) degree and Master degree as well as agreement to provide scholarships covering tuition fee and dormitory.

The Coordinator of International Students Admission of Zhengzhou University, Dr. Wang Zhong (Frank Wang) claimed that his institution has been acknowlegding the quality and performance of SV UGM students shown during their study in Yellow River Institute, China. Hence, they are now offering huge opportunity for SV UGM students and alumni to pursue higher education in China. Even, they are ready to provide partial scholarships.

Instead of the three institutions in China as mentioned above, SV UGM has also been holding mutual partnership with Tongren Polytechnic and Chengdu Textile College in China as well as 51 Polytechnics or Institutes of Technology in Japan and many universities in Korea.  Further, SV UGM is also plotting to develop similar partnership with  fachochschule in Germany and hogeschool in Netherlands. As a matter of fact, many Master and PhD graduates from several higher education institutions in Germany applied for lecturer candidates in SV UGM. Those international collaborations are expected to support SV UGM to graduate professional human resources for Indonesia and the wold.
