Yogyakarta (22/7) — Vocational College Universitas Gadjah Mada (SV UGM) held the 2nd GREAT International Summer 2021 from July 13, 2021 to August 8, 2021. This summer course is the second edition after it was first held in 2019. GREAT stands for Global Relations for Education and Development or global relay for education and development. This GREAT summer course takes the theme of Indonesian Cultural Heritage in the Industrial Age 4.0 and supports Sustainable Development Goals 3, 4, 8 and 12, namely healthy living and supporting prosperity, inclusive and quality education, inclusive economic growth. and sustainable consumption and production patterns. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this course was carried out boldly using Zoom as a synchronous learning medium and UGM eLok as an asynchronous learning management system for participants.
A total of 109 participants from various countries such as China, Malaysia, Taiwan, India, Italy, Vietnam and Indonesia participated in this activity. A total of 24 speakers, both national and international, were invited to attend lectures and virtual workshops. Speakers invited to this summer course came from various universities such as Chengdu Textile College, Universiti Melaka (KUIM), Arizona State University, The University of Denver, University of Otago, Universita della Svizzera Italiana, Shivamanohari School of Performing Arts, Technical University of Vienna, Chiang Mai University, Universiti Putra Malaysia, Sun Yat-Sen University, National University of Singapore, National University of Civil Engineering Hanoi, and Universitas Pertahanan Indonesia. In addition, several companies and agencies were invited to fill various sessions such as Garuda Indonesia, PT. Sidomuncul, Yogyakarta City Culture Office, Merapi Farma Herbal, and Eco.J Ecoprint Jogja, and of course course, the speakers from UGM were also take the stage, such as from the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Pharmacy, the Center for Regional Development Planning Studies and Vocational College UGM.
“The 2nd GREAT International Summer Course 2021 was held with the support of the Directorate of Partnerships, Alumni and International Affairs UGM through the Office of International Affairs and in collaboration with our partner universities Chengdu Textile College, China and Universiti Melaka or previously known as Kolej Universiti Islam Melaka, Malaysia. Thank you for the support given,” said Andri Handayani, S.S., M.A. as chairman of the GREAT International Summer Course 2021 committee at the opening ceremony Tuesday, July 13, 2021.
In his speech, The Dean of Vocational College UGM, Dr.-Ing. Ir. Agus Maryono said that this summer course was the largest event that was held by Vocational College UGM this year because it involved more than 100 participants from various countries even though it was held online.
The Secretary of the Directorate of Partnerships, Alumni and International Affairs UGM, Dr. Puji Astuti, S.Si., M.Sc., Apt., whom granted to open the program, hoped that the course would run smoothly, and hoped that the participants could enjoy, take the benefit and learn a lot from the guest speakers and the activities carried out during the summer course.
