Sekolah Vokasi UGM Strengthens International Network, Welcomes Prof. Harada from Nagoya University

Yogyakarta, October 2, 2025 – Sekolah Vokasi Universitas Gadjah Mada (SV UGM) welcomed Prof. Harada from Nagoya University, Japan, who is currently undertaking a sabbatical program in Indonesia and at UGM for one month.

During his meeting with Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ir. Agus Maryono, IPM., ASEAN Eng., Dean of Sekolah Vokasi UGM, Prof. Harada expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome he received during his stay. Throughout his visit, he also delivered several guest lectures in the fields of bioresources, forestry, and social studies.

Prof. Harada emphasized that these fields are highly relevant to the multidisciplinary nature of vocational education and align with efforts to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“I see that Sekolah Vokasi UGM has a strong collaborative spirit in developing applied education oriented toward real-world solutions. This provides an excellent foundation for future research collaboration and student exchange,” said Prof. Harada.

Meanwhile, Prof. Agus Maryono expressed his appreciation for Prof. Harada’s contribution and highlighted the importance of follow-up cooperation focusing on strengthening the Three Pillars of Higher Education — teaching, research, and community service.

Both parties agreed to develop joint research and promote student exchange programs, including a one-semester exchange at SV UGM and an international Community Service Program (KKN).

This international KKN program was previously implemented in 2022, involving Japanese students who received positive responses from the local community. The discussion also covered opportunities for research collaboration involving industry, ensuring that cooperation extends beyond academic activities and brings tangible benefits to businesses and society.

As a concrete step, SV UGM and Nagoya University agreed to draft a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for the 2026–2030 period. The agreement aims to further strengthen international collaboration, support applied research development, and foster innovation that responds to community needs.
