Yogyakarta, October 7, 2025 — The Health Promotion University (HPU) team of Sekolah Vokasi Universitas Gadjah Mada (SV UGM), in collaboration with students of the Master of Public Health Program, Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FKKMK) UGM, organized a training session on the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the 6-Minute Walk Test (6MWT) as part of efforts to enhance competence in cardiorespiratory fitness assessment.

The training was attended by SV UGM staff and students and featured Dr. Likuidita Yona Ramadini, M.Biomed, Physical Activity Counselor of HPU FK-KMK UGM, who delivered materials on the Six-Minute Walk Test based on scientific guidelines and fitness test safety standards.

The activity aimed to equip participants with the ability to perform the Six-Minute Walk Test (6MWT) — a simple yet effective method for estimating maximal oxygen consumption (VO₂max). VO₂max serves as a key indicator of heart and lung fitness as well as overall physical health.
Participants gained knowledge and hands-on experience in preparing equipment and participants, conducting the test, measuring vital signs such as blood pressure and heart rate, and interpreting results following American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) guidelines.
The training also emphasized participant safety and comfort, highlighting medical contraindications and the use of the Borg Scale to assess fatigue and breathlessness levels.
This collaboration between the HPU SV UGM Team and Master of Public Health students from FKKMK UGM exemplifies interdisciplinary synergy in applied health education, strengthening Sekolah Vokasi UGM’s role in promoting health within the campus environment.
The program aligns with the spirit of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
-
SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, by promoting healthy behaviors through physical fitness assessment and improvement,
-
SDG 4: Quality Education, by providing experiential and collaborative learning opportunities for students and staff, and
-
SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, by reinforcing inter-institutional cooperation for sustainability in health and vocational education.
Through this training, participants are expected to apply the 6MWT method as a fitness assessment tool in workplaces and communities, contributing to a healthy, productive, and sustainable campus at Sekolah Vokasi UGM.
