Cooperated with API, Vocational College plans to build the new major “Applied Bachelor of Manufacturing Engineering”

Wednesday (4/3), Department of Mechanical Engineering (DME) held the Workshop and National Seminar which part of series of Mechanical Fair 2017.

This workshop has a theme “Qualification of Welding in the Industry Development of Mechanical Tools in Indonesia” and held at University Club UGM which attended more than 180 participants, which consist of Students, Lecturers and Public Society.

Presenting 3 speakers, they are Ir. Rudy Andriyana IPM, as the head of The Association of Mechanical Tools Industry Indonesia (ASIMPI), Mohd Norsaiful Anuar (General Manager Welding Division PT. Multi Mayaka. And Ir. Achdiat Atmawinata as The President of Association of Welding Indonesia (API), the workshops ran very smoothly and marked by the enthusiasm of the participants who attended the workshop from the beginning to the end.

Yusuf Rahmatullah (Chairperson of Mechanical Fair 2017) explained that the workshop and seminar that held by Students Association of DME Vocational College UGM was more forwarding the information about the carrier opportunities and in the field of welding and the qualification of welding in development of mechanical tools industry in Indonesia.

In that opportunity also, Vocational College UGM (represented by Wikan Sakarinto, Ph.D / as the dean) did the MoU signing with the President of Welding Association of Indonesia.

“After the opening of Mechanical Fair 2017 signed the MoU with LSP-IIM and PT SMC Pneumatics Indonesia, this time DTM SV UGM cooperated with stakeholders to strengthen the cooperation in the field of mechanical with API”, Wikan explained.

Wikan also explained that cooperation between Dept. of Mechanical Engineering with some stakeholders initiated in order to the plan of make the new study program, Applied Bachelor of Manufacturing Engineering.

“In the future, the graduates of Manufacturing Engineering not only get the diploma and transcript but expected can be equipped with certification of competence which recognized internationally” Wikan added.

ANRI explained supports for the plan of establishment D4 Archival Science Vocational College UGM

On Thursday (9/3) Vocational College (VC) Universitas Gadjah Mada visited the National Archives Agency of Republic Indonesia in Jakarta. The visit from VC UGM represented by Wikan Sakarinto, Ph.D (Dean) with Radhian Krisna Putra (Vice Dean for Cooperation and Alumni and Strategic Initiatives) and Waluyo, M.Hum (Head of Department of Foreign Languages, Arts and Culture Management  then welcomed by Head of ANRI, Dr. Mustari Irawan

Wikan informed that this visit aimed to discuss about the plan of cooperation between VC UGM and ANRI in order to establishment of D4 Archival Science in UGM.

“VC UGM and ANRI were already signed out the MoU, and planned that the next June we will extend this cooperation”. Wikan explained.

Head of ANRI also explained the full supports for the plan of establishment D4 Archival Science; some supports are like arranging the curriculum things, public demand of the graduates and help of the Lecturer / expert from ANRI to teach in Vocational College UGM as visiting lecturer.

“The total of archivist needs in Indonesia today is up to 200 thousands labor, but only 3400 archivist who are existing” Mustari added.

Not only discuss about the cooperation of D4 Archival Science, In the near future ANRI hopes that VC UGM will become the training center for all archivist in Indonesia through the Vocational Development Center (VDC)

His hope the D4 Archival Science will ready opened in the period of Student admission in the 2018/2019 based on the academic calendar.

Strengthen The PR’s Function, Vocational College UGM held Workshop

On Friday (17/3), Vocational College in its daily activities always gets contact with many parties. One of those parties which has a symbiosis mutualism with institution that is Media. The Capability of communication with Press in spoken and written is obviously needed by the Public Relation’s (PR) staff in every single division in order to produce a good reputation in the people’s eyes. Located in room 225 Iso Reksohadiprojo’s building, Vocational College held the workshop of PR with the theme “Public Relation’s role in Imaging Institution”

Attended to open the workshop, Dean of Vocational College UGM Wikan Sakarinto, Ph.D and Manager of PR, Supriadianto, M.A., in his speech, Wikan explained that this workshop got positive things for annual work program for this PR unit. Wished by this workshop would improve the institutional of PR which strong and competence around the faculty and the entire area of UGM, specifically in giving the information service optimally and responsible.

Furthermore, to all participants hoped can participate with more active and understand the material that explained by the speaker till the end of the workshop.

The guest speaker of this program is the head of Public Relation and Protocols Unit of UGM, Dr. Iva Ariani and attended by Head of Departments, Representatives of Study Program, and Students.

“We are the front liner which draws the image of University. Our hard work builds UGM which has achievements and reputation would be useless, if its front liner didn’t give their best service to public” Iva added.

Bring the urgency that strongly explained by the Dean, Iva asked the participants know and understand about the role and function about PR UGM and she asked to reflects the good and bad habits UGM society in social media in the thing of upload the photos and status which indirectly taking part of build the image of institution.

To supply the participant in writing the news, the 2nd session continued by Satria Ardhi Nugraha, S.S., more deeply, Satria explained that to publish and inform the news is not must in written, through the temporary media like online media (internet) such a photo is also a news.

“In general, news has written with reporting technic, and not all the things can be informed. We have to see the value of the news and the benefit before published.

The Satria’s presentation closed with QA-session where all the participants enthusiasm response the material that given by the speaker. Many participants hope this material would be given wider to each work units.

Enhancing Graduates’ Competences, SV UGM Established Cooperation with SMK SMTI Yogyakarta

Thursday (16/03) Vocational College (SV) UGM signed MoU and MoA with Vocational High School of Industrial Technology (SMK SMTI) Yogyakarta. Both institution agreed to establish cooperation on education, research and community service as well as human resource development.

The Principal of SMK SMTI Yogyakarta, Dra Tri Ernawati, M.Si., attending the ceremony altogether with some teacher representatives, expressed her expectation that the cooperation with SV UGM would enhance SMK SMTI students’ competences, especially on welding, mechanical technology and mechatronics.

In near future, we expect our students could attend laboratory work on welding, mechanical technology and mechatronics at SV UGM particularly at Mechanical Engineering Department,” she said.

Dean of SV UGM, Wikan Sakarinto, M.Sc., Ph.D., accompanied with Vice Dean for Partnership and Strategic Initiatives and Head of Mechanical Engineering Department as well as lecturers warmly welcomed the delegations of SMK SMTI Yogyakarta. Both institutions’ authorized representative then signed the MoU and MoA after a brief courtesy meeting.

Aside from the aforementioned cooperation, SV UGM also agrees to assist SMK SMTI Yogyakarta in preparing laboratory work materials and issuing certificates for students passing the laboratory work activities on welding, mechanical technology and mechatronics.

Wikan said that SV UGM as Vocational Higher Education Institution is strategic enough to promote governmental programs to prepare human resources to compete in global world.

“SV UGM always faces challenges on graduating skilled human resources possessing solid hard skill and soft skill,” Wikan said.

By this cooperation, SV UGM and SMK SMTI Yogyakarta could synergize one another to enhance graduates’ competences on vocational education to bring benefits to Indonesia. (ty)

Never Stop Innovating, Vocational College Held Workshop on Lecturer’s Credit Assessment

Thursday (23/03/17), the functions of a lecturer involve acknowledgement, appreciation, and credence of his/her competences, performance, integrity and responsibility on implementing Tridharma. Besides, those functions could be recognized as non-material incentive to boost their performance and creativity. Considering that, the standard and assessment procedures should run condusively.

Referring to that condition, on Wednesday 22 March 2017 at room 225 Isorekso Hadiprodjo building, Vocational College UGM presented workshop “Socialization of Credit Assessment” organized by Unit of Finance, Asset and Human Resources.

This workshop was attended by Vice Dean of Finance, Asset and Human Resources Faiz Zamzami, S.E., M.Acc., QIA accompanied by his assistant, Nabella Duta Nusa, M.Acc. Within his opening speech, Faiz explained that lecturer promotion is required not only to improve the quality of the individual but to develop the institution.

“Since 1 January 2017, there are 39% lecturers that have not got promotion within 10 years”, he said.

Dean of Vocational College UGM, Wikan Sakarinto, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D added that this workshop aims at preparing the future of Vocational College by motivating lecturers to get promotion.

“In 2022 Vocational College should be independent because the future is us”, he said.

This workshop, which was attended by lecturers of SV UGM, presented a guest speaker from Directorate of Human Resources UGM, Aries Tati, S. IP., as the officer at Unit of Lecturer Transfer. During the workshop, Aries Tati was explaining the administration procedures and requirements to get lecturer promotion.

“I must emphasize that instead of cummulative credits, lecturers should prepare both national and international journals,” she said.

Supported by competence guest speaker, SV UGM expected that all lecturers understand the recent procedures of credit assessment for lecturer promotion. (ty)

In 2017, Vocational College will receive 2186 new students

On Friday (17/3), Vocational College UGM held the press conference in order to publish the Students Admission (PMB) in Academic year 2017/2018, the establishment the new applied bachelor (D4) study program, and inform the academic innovation “Teaching Industry” in Kulon Progo.

In front of the mass media, The Dean, Wikan Sakarinto, Ph.D accompanied by the Vice dean for Academics and Students Affairs, Agus Nugroho, M.T. explained  that in the next academic year (2017/2018), SV UGM will receive around 2186 students for 21 study programs, in D3 and D4 programs. “Begin from 13 March 2017, we have opening the admission especially for high achievers admission (PBU)”

Meanwhile, Agus also explained that some selection lanes for new students, such as Finding the High Achievers students for Senior and Vocational High Schools.

“Outside of those lanes, we also hold the recruitment for new students by Written Test. First batch of the test will organized by UGM (University Level) and the second one will be held by Vocational College (Faculty Level)”, he added.

In the future, Vocational College keep develop and establish the D4 programs and Mater of Applied Science, in this 2017, Vocational College arranges to open the Applied Foreign Language Program, Applied Bachelor of Planning Development of Regional Economic and Maritime Engineering (Concentration under D4 Heavy Equipment Engineering)

Vocational College UGM Held Overview Writing Workshop

On Thursday (23/03) Vocational College UGM held the Overview Writing Workshop for the lecturer to facilitate the lecturers and academic society in Vocational College Universitas Gadjah Mada. Located at room 225 in the building of Iso Reksohadiprojo Vocational College and presents the guest speaker from Australia, he is Dr. Digby Race, the Associate Professor at the University of Sunshine Coast, Australia.

The Workshop attended by the academic society of UGM, Lecturers from Vocational College Universitas Gadjah Mada and the Lecturers from Semarang Merchant Marine Polytechnic (PIP Semarang). The workshop ran very active and got the enthusiasm from the participants

The workshop officially opened by one of the Vice Deans of Vocational College UGM, Dr. Silvy Nur Oktalina. She explained that the workshop aims to support the lecturer and academic society around the Vocational College UGM to write journal in not only in national scale but also in international level.

This workshop has two sessions, there are presentation and discussion session. The guest speaker, Dr. Race explained much great information about how to write a journal and the steps to. In the discussion session there are so many questions from the participants, and Dr. Race wisely answered all the questions apparently and makes sure all the participants understood about all the knowledge and information that he has shared.

In the end, all the participants received the certificate of workshop and closed the meeting by took some photos together.

SV UGM Invited Senior Advisor of IASI for Interactive Sharing Session with Students

Thursday (23/3) Vocational College (SV) UGM held Studium Generale for students. The event that was held at Herman Yohanes building was attended by more than 50 students from various departments and majors.

For guest speaker, SV UGM invited the Senior Advisor of IASI (Association of Experts and Scholars of Indonesia), Mr. Agus Pramono. During the Sharing Session, Mr. Agus was sharing his experiences of working at prestigious companies in Indonesia and abroad.

“4 aspects that should be possessed by professionals to compete globally are ekspertise, english, IT skill, and communication skill,” he said.

Agus Pramono said that students should have passion on specific field. “Working with passion will increase profesionalism it means that we are responsibility of what we are doing,” he added.

Eventhough this event held during mid-term exam, but students were enthusiast to participate. SV expects that by participating in this event students could get useful experience for their future career. (ty).

Study Program of Regional Economic Development (D4 PEK) is Now Open for Student Admission of 2017/2018 Academic Year

Department of Economics and Business of Vocational College Universitas Gadjah Mada (DEB SV UGM) officially established new study program of Regional Economic Development. This study program is now open for Student Admission of 2017/2018 academic year. The establishment of this study program was influenced by the dynamics of regional development in Indonesia. Regional Economic Development focuses on strategic region to encourage sectoral development. It is also considered as UGM’s contribution to diminish poverty and economic discrepancy and to support nation development.

Monday (27/3), taking place at Hall Room of Univercity Club Hotel UGM, DEB SV UGM held an MoU signing ceremony and a Seminar about “Prospects and Challenges of Regional Economic Development”. This event was opened by Prof. Suratman, the Vice Rector for Research and Community Service of UGM. Attending this event were more than 150 guests from Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of State Apparatus, Department of National Planning and Development (Pusbindiklatren), Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, Dirjen Dirmawa, Governor of Yogyakarta, Mayors, Local Government, Chiefs of District, Heads of Department, Associations of Regional Economic Development, and representatives of schools in Yogyakarta.

This event began with MoU and MoA signing between SV UGM and Department of National Planning and Development (Pusbindiklatren) and between SV UGM and Association of Indonesian Governmental Planning (AP2I). In front of attendees and guests, Prof. Suratman warmly welcomed these cooperations. He expected that the establishment of D4 PEK could be a solution towards regional discrepancy in Indonesia.

“This cooperation is good news for you since graduates of D4 PEK are highly demanded in Indonesia these days,” said Prof Suratman.

Meanwhile, Wikan Sakarinto, M.Sc., Ph.D., the Dean of Vocational College UGM, said that SV UGM never stop innovating. One of the innovations is establishment of D4 PEK which is the first in Indonesia.

“Curriculum, internship, and certification should consider their link and match,” he said.

The guestspeakers of the seminar were Drs. Sumedi Andoyo Mulyo, M.A.,Ph.D., the Director of Underdeveloped Regions, Transmigration, and Rural Area of Bappenas and Drs. Bob Ronald F. Sagala., M.Si., the Sub-directorate Chief of Planning and Evaluation of Area II of Directorate PEIPD.  This event ended with questions and answers session and discussions hosted by Laksmi Yustika Devi, M.Si.,Ph.D. (ty)

UGM Students Develop E-Gamatuna (Elektronik Gamelan untuk Tunanetra)

Gamelan is Javanese traditional musical instrument which is quite common for foreigners outside Indonesia. There are many foreign researchers who are interested in conducting research on Gamelan. Even though most Javanese people learn and play Gamelan a lot, but there are still certain groups of people that are unable to learn and play it due to their disabilities. Disabled people, especially blind people need massive effort to learn and play Gamelan despite the lack of assisting media to help them doing so.

UGM Students joining PKM-KC 2017 team include Fadil Fajeri (Electrical Engineering of Vocational College), Dinar Sakti Candra Ningrum (Eletronics and Instrumentation Engineering of Vocational College), Muhammad Ali Irham (Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering of Vocational College), Sapnah Rahmawati (Applied Economics of Vocational College), and Musfira Muslihat (Psychology) design and develop digital Gamelan instrument for blind people which is called E-gamatuna.

Those students consider that Gamelan does not only a set of musical instrument but Gamelan also contains ethics, aesthetics, and moral value. By learing how to play Gamelan through E-gamatuna, blind people could show their contribution in promoting and maintaining Indonesian culture.

Under the supervision of Maun Budiyanto, S.T., M.T., a lecturer at Electrical Engineering of Vocational College UGM, this team is being prepared to pass the screenings of PIMNAS 2017.

E-gamatuna is designed to represent Gamelan Balungan (main melody) consists of Demung, Saron, and Peking. Besides, E-gamatuna adopts specific learning method by following Notasi Kepatihan. Notasi Kepatihan is numerical notation in Javanese, which is ji, ro, lu, pat, mo, nem, pi. Due to their innovative invention, students joining E-gamatuna team got opportunity to attend the exhibition event of science and technology called “Expo Sains dan Teknologi” hosted by Universitas Mercu Buana Yogyakarta on Friday, 19 May 2017. (ty)
