Vocational College UGM held Students Expo in Electronics and Instrumentation

Thursday (17/12), located in the main lobby of Vocational College building, dozens of student works from Electronics and Instrumentation Study Program (ELINS) were displayed.

Besides seeing student works, visitor could also try using the electronic tools made by the students. One of the exhibited tools is automatic body height measurement made by Mario Elfan Niko Rahutama and friends from batch 2014. This handy tool works by placing it on head then it will calculate the height by using ultra-sonic sensor and record it on the display.

Mario explained that student works displayed came from the projects of ELINS Workshop attended by 3rd semester students of Electronics and Instrumentation.

“In the beginning, these works are made for laboratory project but after knowing that they would be displayed in an exhibition, we were very excited. Many visitors would come and see our works, “ Mario said.

On the other side, Saka Gilap known as Asha, a lecturer handling ELINS Workshop and an initiator of this event, said that the purpose of this event is to show the potentials of Electronics and Instrumentation students in designing and developing useful electronic tools.

“Through this event, we expect that students and lecturers from other study programs could acknowledge and appreciate the potentials possessed by ELINS Students. In the future, our students are very ready to collaborate with other students for PKM (Students Creativity Program), “ Asha said.

Asha also explained that on February 2016, there would be bigger exhibition event to accommodate broader participants. It will display not only students works from ELINS but also other study programs in Vocational College, UGM.

At least, there are 15 student works displayed in this expo. It would run from today to December 18th, 2015. Everyone interested in this event is very welcome to visit the main lobby of Vocational College building.

SV UGM is Carrying Out Teaching Industry Project in Kulonprogo

kp-1024x696Wednesday (28/10), Tim Hibah Perencanaan dan Pengembangan Inovasi Akademik (Grants for Planning and Development of Academic Innovation Team) Sekolah Vokasi (SV) UGM paid a visit to Local Government of Kulonprogo to discuss about preparation of Teaching Industry project realization. The delegates from SV UGM were led by the Director himself, that is Ir. Hotma Prawoto Sulistyadi, M.T.,IP-Md. They were warmly welcome by the head of Local Planning and Development Bureau (Bappeda), Ir. Agus Langgeng Basuki.

Teaching Industry (TI) is a project under collaboration between UGM and Local Government of Kulonprogo, in which it was initiated by UGM to develop and improve the quality of vocational education in UGM.

According to Hotma, Teaching Industry program could develop knowledge based on applied research which could stimulate the creation and invention of innovation needed by society.

Hotma stated that through Teaching Industry the synergy between education and industry to embody the dignity as an independent nation could be upheld.

The application of Link and Match principle, which is elaborated into Teaching Industry concept, would be carried out in the arrangement of developing campus building nearby and access to real industry. In this case, UGM has been collaborating with Local Government of Kulonprogo.

Furthermore, to embody the sinergy between education and industry, Vocational College UGM as educational institution takes significant role in the development of industry, especially in Kulonprogo. Contribution of SV UGM academicians related to the development of knowledge based on applied research should focuses on agriculture products or agroindustry. Then, it would be implemented directly by industries in Kulonprogo.

Aside from visiting Local Government in Kulonprogo, delegates of Vocational College UGM also paid a visit to CV. Karya Hidup Sentosa known as Pabrik Traktor Quick (“Quick” Tractor Manufacturer) in Kulonprogo. Based on the arrangement, Vocational College UGM will also exchange mutual collaboration with Pabrik Traktor Quick to develop teaching industry in Kulonprogo.

Collaborating with Japan, Vocational College UGM is organizing an International Symposium

International Symposium on Technology for Sustainability (ISTS) is an International Sympsoium for College and University Students which firstly organized by National Institute of Technology (NIT) Japan. Each year, since 2010, ISTS has been being held by Asia-Pacific Countries in turn. In 2016, the 6th ISTS is going to be held in Indonesia by appointing Vocational School UGM as the distinguished host.

Despite of the symposium agenda, ISTS 2016 which takes 8 days (4 – 12 October 2016) in Yogyakarta also invites the participants to get involved in both indoor and outdoor activities. They are The 2nd  International Students Seminar on Leadership and Networking (ISSLN), company visit, study case in Poncosari Village, leadership experience and games in Borobudur Temple, and many others.

Victorio Fikgi Amartha (Viktor), a student of Vocational College UGM appointed as the chairperson of Student Committee of ISTS 2016, said that this event is promoted for college and university students not only limited to Indonesian students but also for international students from overseas, especially Asia Pacific region.

“Not only students from Vocational College UGM, but all students from Indonesia and from overseas are encouraged to take part in ISTS 2016,” Viktor explains.

Furthermore, Viktor added that there would be partial scholarships granted to 50 early bird participants applying before April 30th, 2016.

SV UGM Initiates Double Degree Program and Study Extension Program with Higher Education Institutions in China

Last March, the delegate of Vocational College UGM (SV UGM) visited some Universities and Institutes of Technology in China. This visit aims at developing academic partnership especially related to higher education and research on applied sciences. The universities and higher education institutions Vocational College UGM visited in China are Zhengzhou University, North China University of Water Conservancy and Electric Power (NCUW) and Yellow River Conservancy and Technology Institute (YRCTI) located in Henan province.

According to Dr. Wikan Sakarinto, the Vice Dean for Academics and Student Affairs of Vocational College UGM, during these 3 years, SV UGM has been holding mutual partnership with YRCTI and has been sending many students to join study extension there.

“In near future, SV UGM will be continuously expanding mutual partnership with Yellow River Institute to develop Double Degree (Applied Bachelor) as well as exchange programs for lecturer and academic members,” Wikan says.

Wikan added that this scheme gained support from Prof. Zheng Jin (Cathy), The Deputy Dean of School of International Education Yellow River Institute. On behalf of YRCTI, she stated the  commitment of YRCTI to carry out and expand the partnership with SV UGM.

At the moment, a number of SV UGM students studying in Yellow River Institute are preparing to continue their study in Zhengzhou University. Considering the good prospect, SV UGM therefore established partnership with Zhengzhou University by signing an MoU. The MoU mentions the opportunity of study extension to pursue Bachelor of Applied Science (B.Sc.) degree and Master degree as well as agreement to provide scholarships covering tuition fee and dormitory.

The Coordinator of International Students Admission of Zhengzhou University, Dr. Wang Zhong (Frank Wang) claimed that his institution has been acknowlegding the quality and performance of SV UGM students shown during their study in Yellow River Institute, China. Hence, they are now offering huge opportunity for SV UGM students and alumni to pursue higher education in China. Even, they are ready to provide partial scholarships.

Instead of the three institutions in China as mentioned above, SV UGM has also been holding mutual partnership with Tongren Polytechnic and Chengdu Textile College in China as well as 51 Polytechnics or Institutes of Technology in Japan and many universities in Korea.  Further, SV UGM is also plotting to develop similar partnership with  fachochschule in Germany and hogeschool in Netherlands. As a matter of fact, many Master and PhD graduates from several higher education institutions in Germany applied for lecturer candidates in SV UGM. Those international collaborations are expected to support SV UGM to graduate professional human resources for Indonesia and the wold.

Twelve Students of Vocational College UGM participating Global Korean Scholarship (GKS) in Republic of Korea.

12 Students of VC UGM accepted to participating scholarship program for students exchange in many universities in Republic of Korea.

Suproadianto, M.A., (head of Korean Language Study Program of VC UGM) said “Through the GKS, VC UGM succeeds to send the students to participate this program every year.”

The group of those 12 students is scheduled will off to Korea on 27th February 2017 from Adisutjipto International Airport. Those students came from the 4th and 6th semester in Korean Language Study Program.

“We need to prepare all the things needed as best as we can if we want accepted in this program”. Ni Nyoman resilia (one of participants) said.

Before those students departing to Korea representing UGM, Wikan Sakarinto, Ph.D (Dean of VC UGM), head of Korean Language and the Manager of Office of International Affairs gave some motivation and supports to the 12 students.

Wikan explained to always keep to communication with them during the program there, share information and pictures about the activities. Adapt with cold weather and environment must be concerned,  See you guys back to Vocational College for the next 6-12 months.

Equate the Perception of Assessment and Calculation of Credit Lecturer, Vocational College held Workshop for Lecturers and Staff

On Wednesday (22/2) Vocational College Universitas Gadjah Mada held workshop assessment and calculation credit for lecturer which is one of the programs of Vice Dean for Human Resources and Finance. The workshop attended by all the lecturer and staff around Vocational College UGM and located at the main building of Vocational College UGM room 225.

Faiz Zamzami. M.Acc, QIA., the Vice Dean for Human Resources and Finance explained that his hope through this workshop could be give the same  understanding about calculation of lecturer credit and equate perception between lecturer proposer and lecturer assessor.

This event has 2 speakers which competent in the field of human resources, they are Prof. Dr. Bambang Purwanto, M.A., as the leader of 3rd Commission Senate Academic and Aris Tati, S.I.P, as the Head of Unit of Lecturers Mutation at Directorate of Human Resources Universitas Gadjah Mada, the workshop runs very interactive, which shown by there are so many questions from the participants which easily answered and solved by both of speakers. Meanwhile, explanation of the speakers is divided in to 2 sessions, each speaker explained and describe about the assessment of lecturer’s promotion and the way to calculate credit of lecturer promotion.

“All lecturers in UGM get the same equal treatment in the case of lecturer’s promotion recommendation.” Aris Tati said.

In the end of the meeting, Prof. Bambang explained that behind the proposal of the lecturer’s promotion, not just the individual needs of the lecturer who proposed, but also would make good impact and benefit to many people.

Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI) dan Danareksa Sekuiritas Opened Investment Gallery at Vocational College UGM

In order to develop the capital market among students of Vocational College (SV) UGM and society in general, on Wednesday (02.22.17) SV UGM in collaboration with the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI) and Danareksa Sekuritas officially opened the Investment Gallery at Department of Economics and Business (DEB) SV UGM marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as well as Gallery launching.

Taking place at courtroom of Department of Economics and Business, this event began with speech from Dean of Vocational College UGM Wikan Sakarinto, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D. The ceremony itself was attended by Dedy Priadi as Head of Area Development of PT Bursa Efek Indonesia (Indonesia Stock Exchange Company) and Saidu Sollikhin as Director of Danareksa Sekuritas.

It is expected that students understand the importance of investment. This Gallery could give various benefits to students and citizens in Yogyakarta.

Related to Investment Gallery endorsed by Danareksa, Saidu Sollikhin explained that his party was not investor-oriented. It prefers to recruit professionals who is willing and ready to work on the field of capital market.

On the other side, Dedy Priadi said that this Gallery could be used as a means of introducing capital market to academicians.

“It could be used as an information bridge between students and knowledge and practice of the capital market”.

Investment Gallery offers publications about capital market. Academicians could take the advantages of the information and data provided to support academic activities but not for commercial use for example in making transaction of capital or stock. This Gallery is equipped with computers.

Investment Gallery of BEI aims at sharing benefits to all parties thus the deployment of information about capital market is on target. It could bring positive impacts to students, economics practitioners, investors, capital market observers, and local communities for education and investment. (ty)

Introducing New Technology, SV UGM Held Mechanical Fair 2017

Tuesday (28/02/2017), Mechanical Engineering Department of Vocational College (SV) UGM held annual event called Mechanical Fair for students of Senior High School and Vocational High School all over Indonesia. Lilik Dwi Setyana, S.T., M.T., Head of Mechanical Engineering Department, said that this event has been held eight times since 2009.

“More than 200 students of Vocational High School in Indonesia are participating in Skill Competitions here,” he explained.

Lilik also extended his expectation about this event. He expected that Mechanical Fair could develop competitiveness among Senior High School and Vocational High School students, therefore it could encourage students to develop themselves. Besides, it could also be a nice communication bridge between Vocational-based Schools and industries related to the latest technology. Further, by Mechanical Fair, SV UGM invited students and public to know more about the latest technology made or used by industries.

The theme of Mechanical Fair 2017 was “Quality Development of Human Resources on Science and Technology to Deal with Global Competition”. This event was ceremonially opened by Dean of Vocational College UGM, Wikan Sakarinto, M.Sc.Ph.D.

Wikan said that this year Mechanical Fair was very special since at the same time there was an MoU signing ceremony between SV UGM and PT PT SMC Pneumatics Indonesia as well as Lembaga Sertifikasi Profesi Inspektor Industri Manufaktur (LSP-IIM).

The cooperations established with those two institutions aiming at supporting the arrangement of developing new Applied Bachelor study program which is Manufacture Engineering within Mechanical Engineering Department.

On the other hand, Yusuf Rahmatullah, the chairperson of Mechanical Fair 2017, said that this event exposing 7 competition categories, such as automotive, mechatronics, CNC programming, metrology, CAD, welding and LKTI.

Instead of Skill Competitions, a National Seminar would be held on 4 March 2017 at University Club (UC) Hotel UGM. The theme of this seminar is “Welding Qualification and Industrial Machinery Development in Indonesia”. (ty)

 

Vocational College UGM held workshop to “reach” Community Service’s Grants DIKTI 2017

Wednesday (08/02/17) Vocational College held workshop “Tips to reach the grants from DIKTI (Ministry of Research Technology and Higher Education of Republic of Indonesia) at room 225 Iso Reksohadiprodjo building and attended by lecturers in different background of the majors. The main speaker of this workshop is Drh. Wisnu Nur Cahyo, Ph.D who is the reviewer DIKTI in the field of community service.

This workshop opened by Vice Dean for Community Service, International Affairs and Public Relations Dr. Silvy Nur Oktalina, M.Si. In her opening speech, she explained that this workshop aimed to gain the information about the strategic tips to reach the Grants of Community Service DIKTI.

The speaker presented about the main purpose of community service and to propose many service’s proposals which will be funded by DIKTI. Community Service considered as the 3rd activity after Education and Research so far, whereas community service has great role as the “bridge” between Universities to public society in the Republic of Indonesia.

Wisnu explained if we want to start the service, enter with empathy theme, do not only tridharma’s teachs that sought but also tridharma’s services and research for accreditation and preferment. At least there are 10 schemes of Community Service Grants which funded by DIKTI, those are Ibm, KKKN-PPM, IbW, IbWPT, IbK, Ib-IKK, IbDM, IbPUD, ibPE and Hi-Link.

“The value of service is high if there much multidiscipline in one team, so there is discipline value”. He added.

 By held this workshop, it’s expected to supply the lecturers in this Faculty with knowledge and skill of mastering the methodology especially which related about the way of proposal’s preparation and supporting the lecturers arrange the service’s proposal to proposed as the annually service’s proposal.

 

VDC SV UGM Held Electronic Correspondence Management Training (E-Letter Application)

The development of technology in recent days ease people’s work at various fields. As a significant example, at archival field which previously concerned on processing paper-based documents, it is now taking advantages of technology to manage, access, deliver and maintain archives. Technology makes it easy to access archives. Considering that fact, Vocational Development Center (VDC) Vocational College (SV) UGM collaborating with Archival Science Study Program organized “Electronic Correspondence Management” training on Tuesday and Wednesday, 28 February and 1 March 2017 at Fave Hotel Kotabaru Yogyakarta.

23 participants took part in that event. They came from Local Government Institutions, Hospitals, State-owned Enterprises such as BKD Boyolali, BKD Batang, Dr. Karyadi Hospital, Banyumanik Hospital Semarang, BKD Salatiga, PTPN VI Jambi, PTPN  IV Medan, Sekda Kaur Bengkulu, PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital Sruweg, BKD Trenggalek, BKD Pacitan, BKPSDM Kranganyar, BBPPTP Surabaya, Local Government of Bandung, Public Health Office Ngawi.

This event was opened by Faiz Zamzami, S.E., MAcc., QIA as Vice Dean for Finance, Asset and Human Resources SV UGM. Faiz said that each institution should start using electronic correspondence for efficiency and economic reasons. Besides, electronic correspondence could aid the administration since every document would get stored well.

“This training has been being a regular event to give benefits to the participants,” Faiz said.

At the end of the training, all participants were taken a trip to Office of Archives and Public Library of Yogyakarta located at Letjen Suprapto No. 33 A Street, Ngampilan, Yogyakarta.

Head of Data Safety and Protection Division, Nursigit Edi Putranta, SIP, welcomed the participants and gave brief explanation about archives management at Office of Archives and Public Library of Yogyakarta. (ty)
